Robert R. “Red” McNutt was born into this world on March 3, 1938 to Benjamin and Nancy McNutt of Knoxville Tennessee. Born and raised here he grew to find his true calling of being a doting husband and beloved father.
Following a rough childhood he enlisted in the United States Army on October 28, 1958. He served overseas in Germany and was Honorably Discharged on January 30, 1962.
Upon his return home, he met his beloved wife, Doris Gibson. Together they shared 58 years of unwavering marriage with love and devotion. They had one son (preceded in death) and one daughter, Jannifer McNutt Lewis whom he was able to walk down the wedding aisle to marry David L. Lewis. Robert readily and lovingly welcomed his step grandson David A Lewis as his own blood grandson.
After 39 years of employment as a plumber with Knoxville City and Knox County school boards he retired. When he wasn’t running errands for his family, he loved listening to Southern Gospel music. As a Godly man he was dedicated to serving God and his church, Burnett Creek Baptist Church. He was always joking and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone.
His passing is preceded by his baby son Gregory Scott McNutt, his parents, Ben and Nannie as well as his brothers Gene, Lee, Ben Jr, Sidney and his sister Mary Ruth.
He is survived in life by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Robert will forever live on in the hearts and memories of the family and friends he left behind. The family will receive friends Monday December 5, 2022 from 6pm-8pm at Berry Highland South Funeral Home in the Magnolia Chapel and a graveside service with full military honors will be held Tuesday December 6, 2022 at 10am at the East TN State Veteran’s Cemetery 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920.
