Robert R. Goddard, Jr., age: 93, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at his home in New York City. Robert had a distinguished career in the performing arts, starting in junior high and later at County High School in Knoxville. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee. He moved to New York City where he performed in many plays, musicals, and operas. He studied with prominent voice trainers and performers at the Julliard School, the New England Conservatory, and the Herbert Berghoff School. In the 1950s, he served on the President’s Cultural Exchange Program in Russia. He received a Master of Education degree from Hunter College in New York City and joined the prestigious School of Performing Arts High School where he taught drama, acting, and English and where he directed many plays. Robert was an accomplished baritone singer and performer. He taught for 30 years. Preceded in death by: Robert Goddard Sr. (father), Pauline Goddard Caldwell (mother) Theodore Goddard (brother), and Jack Goddard (brother). Survived by: James Walker (brother), Gregory Goddard (nephew) and Carlos Manzano (friend). Receiving friends will be Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918. The Committal Service will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. The brother, nephew, and friend will say a few words in his memory.
