Robert Carroll (Bob) Dagley, age 79, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, February 5, 2016. He was born March 27, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1947, Bob accepted Jesus as Savior at Wooddale Baptist Church. He was a longtime member of Valley Grove Baptist Church, Ball Camp, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon. Bob was a graduate of Karns High School and Carson-Newman College and earned his Master’s in Education from the University of Tennessee. He served in the Air National Guard which activated to Air Force during the Berlin Crisis and the construction of the Berlin Wall. On July 14, 1961, Bob married the love of his life, Janet Ruth Harris. Bob taught Physical Education, coached the Boys Basketball team and was Assistant Principal at Gibbs High School from 1963-1970. He was named KIL Coach of the Year following the 1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons. Bob was an Assistant Principal at Farragut High School from 1970 until his retirement in 1996. He was preceded in death by parents, Frederic Roosevelt Dagley and Flora Kate Dagley. His surviving family includes wife of 54 years, Janet Dagley; twin daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Wesley Rouse, Maryville; Susan and David Haas, Morristown; son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. (Bobby) and Jenn Dagley, London, Kentucky; dearly loved grandchildren, Joshua Rouse, Caleb Rouse, Sarah Rouse, Katlyn Haas, Ryan Haas, Ashlyn Haas, Maddie Dagley, Abby Dagley, and Shelby Dean Dagley; sister, Uida Jean Segrove; brother-in-law, Edwin Harris; and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank niece and caregiver, Darlene Rightsell, for her loving service; Dr. Michael Underwood for his dedicated medical services and friendship of 21 years and his staff for their encouragement and support; and the many neighbors, church family, and friends who have cared for us. A special thank you to Ralphine Major, for her friendship, time, and interest in retelling the story of the 1964-65 Gibbs High School Boys Basketball team, a team which always held a special place in Bob’s heart. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Berry Highland Memorial. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Berry Highland Memorial with Rev. Tony Maples officiating. The interment will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. The 1964-66 Gibbs High School Basketball Team will serve as Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church, 7419 Ball Camp Pike, Knoxville, TN 37931.
