He was born in Sweetwater, TN but spent his adult life in Knoxville, TN. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in 1971. He went on to obtain his Masters of Computer Science in 1987. He retired as an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology in 2012 where he received an Excellence in teaching in 2000-2001 and a Gene Joyce Visionary award in 2003-2004.
Preceded in death by wife, Linda Cooper Barber; father, William Allen Barber; mother, Frances Elizabeth Wells Barber and brother, Donald O. Barber.
Survivors include brother, William George (Betty) Barber Sr. of Venice, FL; sister, Mary Ann (Alvin) Martin of Murfreesboro, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Richard was a dedicated husband and cherished his family, friends and Colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, he asked that you donate to an Animal Shelter affected by the flood area in our State or to the American Cancer Society of Knoxville, TN in his name.
