
Neal O’Steen, passed away on March 6, 2016 at Somerfield Health Care Center in Brentwood, Tennessee. He was born in Bedford County, Tennessee. Mr. O’Steen, age 96, was the son of the late John Edward O’Steen and Susannah Reid O’Steen. Mr O’Steen served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in journalism. He worked for the Kingsport Times and the Virginian Pilot before becoming the editor of the News Bureau at the University of Tennessee in 1957. He later became the Director of Publications for the University of Tennessee where he worked until retirement in 1985. After retiring, Mr. O’Steen traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, as well as the United States. He traveled to over 45 foreign countries and visited all 50 states before his death. He was a member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lowe O’Steen. Survived by his son, Bill O’Steen (Marion) of Decatur, GA; daughter, Peggy O’Steen Naifeh (Gene) of Nasnville, TN and his grandson, Mark Naifeh of Nashville. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:30am at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
