He was born on February 7, 1928 in Newport, TN. He was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church, but had previously been a long time member of the former Fort Sanders Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was very strong in his faith and love for the Lord. He always gave God the praise and glory for everything. He served in the United States Army as an automotive mechanic. He then worked at L&N (CSX) Railroad for 41 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Edna and his son Terry.
He is survived by daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Palmer; daughter-in-law, Ann Sisk; grandson, Brandon (Devon) Palmer; granddaughter, Melanie (Jim) Smith; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Hayden Palmer and Cheyenne, Luke and Faith Smith. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mabel Vassey and his sister, Addie Hamlett.
I want to give a special thank you to Carissa and Rachel with UT Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness you gave taking care of Dad. Thank you chaplain Bill Scott for visiting and spending time in prayer with us.
The family will receive friends in the Mausoleum Chapel of Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery from 1:30 to 2:30 pm on Thursday, September 2, 2021. There will be a service at 2:30 pm followed by entombment.
