Miriam moved to England at 18 years old because of her love for the Beatles. She pursued a career in theatre and served as stage manager for the Theatre Royal of London. In 1971 she met Anton, marrying in 1972. They lived briefly in Jamaica before moving to Miami where they had their first child, Heidi. She went on to work as a secretary for Vizcaya Historical Estate. In 1983 Miriam became a Registered Nurse working at Baptist Hospital of Miami. She worked in the medical/surgical and mother/baby departments. In 1990 she and Anton adopted their daughter, Cynthia. In June of 1991 the family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where Miriam began working at St. Mary's Medical Center and later at Parkwest Hospital. Miriam enjoyed travel, music, rock and roll and living in the South. She was a good cook, crafting such as crocheting and wreath making. She was an avid collector of dolls and purses.
Miriam is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 50 years, Anton Zimmermann; sister, Carol Gordon. She leaves behind her children, Heidi Efurd (Greg) and Cynthia Whitt; grandchildren, Eleanor Efurd and Sailor Whitt; brother, Harvey Hancock (Patti).
A Celebration of Miriam's life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 6pm at First Presbyterian Church.
