Mary was the last surviving sibling of 15 children born to Joseph and Ida Lane of Kodak, TN.
She was partner at Men of Measure on Kingston Pike from 1983 to 1999 where she custom tailored suits for some of Knoxville’s best-dressed men.
Mary was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was known for her loving hospitality and service.
Awaiting Mary in heaven are her parents, Joseph and Ida, and her siblings; Boyd Ray, Betty Lee, Joanne, Sam, John Henry, Christine, Magdalene, Agnes, Harold, Willis, Bobbie Jean, Duel “Tip”, Herbert, and infant brother Wendell Wilkie Lane.
Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clarence and son, Scott (Lou), her special niece, Joan Smith, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She bore one son but nurtured many children, including her niece, Lisa Petree (Tim), her nephew, Alvin Smith, Jr (Leslie), neighbor, Angi Kelley, and many other family friends; along with “adopted” grandchildren; Crystal Copeland (Lee), Ben Parsons, Alex and Noah (Kristen) Myers, Corey and Emily Smith; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Myers, Connor, Riley and Hayley Copeland, and Andrea and Angelina Kelley.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm, on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2109 Piney Grove Church Road, with a celebration of life to follow. The Rev. Rick Lemons, Rev. Sam Oakes and Rev. Jeff Tallent officiating. Graveside service and burial will be 10:30am on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Piney Grove Cemetery. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial gifts to Knox Area Rescue Ministries and American Cancer Society in Mary’s name are encouraged.
