Mary A. Scates

Mary "Nana" A. Scates, age 82, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024. Mary was a longtime member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald L. Scates; father, Raymond Atchley; mother, Maydell Atchley; brothers: Bill Atchley, Danny Atchley, and Doug Atchley.

She is survived by her sister, Burma Carr; daughters: Donna McNeil (Randy), Kelly Scates (Don), Gina Reynolds (Jeff); grandchildren: Chris McNeil (Kelsi), Malea Ford (Christian), Jordan Reynolds, Dylan Reynolds, Payton Reynolds; great-grandchildren: Blake Woods, Bryce McNeil, Emersyn Zimmerman, Sutton Ford, and Kollins Ford; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Amanda.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family and friends will meet at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery for an 8:30 AM graveside service Monday, April 29, 2024, Kirby Ownby officiating.
