Mary Eva Ludwig McKown, 94, passed away October 18, 2017 at her home in Tallahassee, Florida, where she had lived with her daughter, Francee Laywell and family since 2013. Born in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, she resided in Knoxville, TN for 54 years, after marriage to her loving husband of 47 years, Francis Y. McKown (Doc), who passed away in 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias and Ethel Ludwig, sister Ione Crowfoot, and brothers Joe, Ted, Jim and Leo Ludwig. She is survived by daughters Teresa Anthony (Jay) of Ashburn, VA, Francee Laywell (Eric) and grandchildren Matthias, Savannah and Natalie Laywell, sisters-in-law Lily Ludwig and Pauline Ludwig, cousin Fernande Ludwig, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral since 1957, where she was organist for many years. She retired from Dialysis Clinic Inc. in 1995. Very active in the community, Mary coached girls’ softball for many years, volunteered for Ladies of Charity, and read to students in local schools. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, attending Lady Vols games, and spending time with family and friends. After moving to Tallahassee, she loved to attend her grandchildren’s activities and sport events. The family will receive friends Friday Oct. 27 from 6-8 PM at Berry Highland Memorial (Knoxville). Funeral Mass is Saturday 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
