Massey, Mary E, age 88, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013. Mary retired from bookkeeping after 40 years of service with Knox Metals Corporation. She also volunteered as a bookkeeper for Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a former member. Mary was also involved for several years in Mt Olive’s Bus Ministry and served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts. She was a current member at Stock Creek Baptist Church. Mary never met a stranger and never turned away a stray animal. She loved the Lady Vols and Big Orange Football. Mary was preceded in death by husband of 49 years, James M. Massey; parents, Hardin and Mamie Carter; and brothers, Albert Bailey, Sr. and John Bailey. Survivors include children Karen Massey, Stephen Massey and Mary Sands; grandchildren, Lisa Sands, Gerry Sands, Gina Sands, Stephen Massey, Jr. and Kaitlyn Massey; great grandchild, Justin Holsomback; several nieces and nephews; countless extended family and friends; special friend, Debbie Massey and longtime friend and neighbor, George Buchanan. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with a service celebrating Mary’s life to follow at 8 PM. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Thursday at Berry Funeral Home and will proceed in procession to Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a 12 Noon interment service.
