Mary J. (Burchell) Carroll

Mary J. Burchell Carroll, age 92, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 30, 2024. Mary was raised in the Lutheran Faith but for many years has enjoyed Church Street United Methodist Church with her family. Mary was the 6th of seven siblings and lived most of her life in Knoxville graduating from Historic Young High School where she loved playing French horn in her high school band and with the Knoxville Symphony. She worked for several years in accounting at UT and then in her sons' Audiology practice. Mary and her husband, Jim, loved their cabin in the mountains and when you couldn't contact them Thursday thru Sunday, you knew they were there. Mary loved her family more than anything, especially, holiday times together. She was so very proud of her sons and daughters-in-law, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Carroll and her son, Dr. James R. Carroll, Jr.; parents, Roy Sr. and Audrey Burchell; sisters, Eloise Miller, Bonnie Mount, Alma Jean Varnes; brothers, Roy Jr., Bobby, and Rudy. She is survived by son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Audrey; daughter-in-law, Mary; grandson, Jamie; granddaughter, Sherry (Sam) Lamers; great grandsons, Gavin and Garrett; great granddaughters, Abigail and Emma; many nieces and nephews. We are so thankful for her caregiver friends Christine Brunton, Saffron Buzzi, Pam Varnes and Anita Fouts for making her life so wonderful for the past two years. Also, special thanks to Covenant Home Hospice.

Graveside service will take place Thursday, September 5th at 11:00 am, meeting at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home at 10:30 am for procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Jan B. Wade and Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Pallbearers to include: Richard Carroll, James Carroll, Gavin Carroll, Garrett Carroll, Dan Varnes, and Joey Varnes.
