Marvin Ray Downey

Downey, Marvin Ray –age 68 of South Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 03, 2013 at home after a brief but brave battle with cancer. Marvin was born February 28, 1945 to the late Ray and Mary Downey. He married the love of his life, Joyce Downey on July 31, 1970 and was married for 42 years until her death on October 1, 2012. In addition to his wife, Marvin’s greatest joys were his children and granddaughter (who knew him as Big Daddy). His unfailing love and devotion to his family will be greatly missed. He touched many lives with his warm smile and caring spirit. Marvin was also preceded in death by his best friend, Woody Lawson. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Brian Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Mike Hayes, Chris Hadley; granddaughter, Calista Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Diane Downey; many other relatives and friends including his church family at Lakeview Baptist Church and former employer, D&H Machine Service. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Funeral service will follow at 7:30 PM with Rev. A.J. Crawford officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Berry Funeral Home and go in procession to Mt. Olive Cemetery for an 11:00 AM graveside service.
