Martha Edna Mills

Mills, Martha Edna Covington, of Karns passed away July 24, 2011. She was born February 27, 1925 in Pickens County, Georgia. She is preceded in death by parents W R (Rich) and Minnie (Tippens) Covington, husband of many years, Charles Andrew Mills; sisters Ernestine Ruth, Willie Day, brother Howard Covington. She is survived by her children: Cathy (Wayne) Hammons, Kenneth (Sharon) Mills and Niki Mills Weaver; grandchildren: Katie (Matt) Kernan, Andrew (Janice) Weaver, Carol Mills, Charlie Mills, and SGT Robert Weaver, great grandchildren: Emma and Lila Kernan; sisters and brothers in law, Margaret (Ted) Peltier, Gerald Ruth, Faye (Robert) Myers, and many nieces and nephews. She was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and served on many committees.

She worked at Karns High School and Karns Vocational School until her retirement after which she traveled extensively for several years. She particularly enjoyed bible studies and reading. In her younger day she enjoyed garden and community activities.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, giving them her undivided attention each summer. Her great grandchildren were a special joy to her.

A special thinks goes to Jo Nita Self as well as the staff at Brakebill Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements- Visitation 6-8 Wednesday at Weavers with service to follow at 8 pm. Family and friends will meet 12:45 pm Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery for a 1:00pm interment.
