Sharon McIntosh, age 83, of Maryville, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 in Lexington, KY. She was the daughter of Sterling Mason and Georgianna Irwin McIntosh. Her maternal grandparents were Horace and Jeanette Irwin of Powell, TN and her paternal grandparents were Herbert and Fannie McIntosh of Irvine, KY. She leaves a number of wonderful relatives in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia, including special cousins Cynthia McIntosh of Lexington, KY and Molly Durr of Maryville, TN.
Sharon grew up in the Knoxville, Tennessee area and attended Powell High School. She graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1962 and from Georgia State University in 1971 with Education degrees. She taught school in Tennessee and Georgia prior to joining the textbook publishing industry where she worked for 28 years. Her profession took her around the country with stays in Atlanta, Northern California, and New York City.
Later in her career Sharon returned to the southeast where she joined an Internet curriculum company. At the same time, she became involved with priority schools in Chattanooga helping to raise test scores when the federal No Child Left Behind program was implemented. She also worked to rejuvenate the ElderScholars group at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Her education career concluded with the publication of her book, The Prepared Mind, a mathematics family guide for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Sharon was a lover of nature and all things green, and as such, served on the landscape committee at her townhome complex. Other interests included gardening, reading, and especially political debate.
Receiving of freinds will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 12 noon with a graveside to follow at 1pm at Berry Highland Memorial.
