Born in Etowah, TN and raised in Corbin, KY. Marla eventually moved to Knoxville and graduated from West High School in 1957. She received her Associate's degree from Knoxville Business College. After working for the State of Tennessee in the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, she began her 30 year career at The University of Tennessee as an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs.
Marla is a current member of Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN and was a former member of both Calvary Baptist and Mt. Olive Baptist in Knoxville.
Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Dorcas Ethridge; brother, Bruce Ethridge and son, Todd Mitchell.
Survivors include loving husband of 57 years, Aubrey Mitchell; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lea and Bill Lane; grandchildren, Sarah Paone (Scott), Holly Lane, Abby Carmichael (Sam), Ben Mitchell, Lily Mitchell; great-grandsons, Elijah Paone and Sawyer Mitchell. Marla especially loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandsons.
A visitation for Marla will be held Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM. Dr. Deron Cobb officiating. The Funeral Service will be streamed live on the Berry Funeral Home Facebook page. Family and friends will proceed to Mt. Olive Cemetery, 2400 Berry Rd., Knoxville, TN 37920 in procession following the funeral service.
