Marie was a woman of faith and strength, who never waned in her love for her family, and who kept going - even when times were tough. She was the oldest member of Vestal United Methodist Church and a member of the Riverdale Home Demonstration Club and of the GFWC Knoxville Women's Club. Marie was recognized in 2002 as the First Lady of Knoxville; the article in The Knoxville News Sentinel was titled "Her Love of Crafts and Generous Spirit Touched Many Lives." Marie was a very unique person, so much so that people who've met her won't forget her, and people who've never met her - but who've heard stories about her from children - always ask about her.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Earl C. Gideon.
Marie is survived by her children: Rosemarie Gideon Harrell (Bill) of Chesapeake,VA, David Gideon (Sandra) of Knoxville,TN, Kathy Gideon Browning of Virginia Beach,VA; niece, Nancy Dowling Saylors; nephews: Walter "Sonny" Bailey, Tom Doyle, Tim Doyle and several great nieces and nephews.
