THOMPSON, MARIA JUANITA GIBBS THOMPSON BALLARD FARMER, born October 25, 1925 In Knox County, Tennessee as the last Gibbs to be born in the Historic Nicholas Gibbs home, departed October 18, 2013 peacefully with granddaughter, Mindy-Lou N. Thompson Tremblay “Nykky” listening to her last heartbeat as friends and family surrounded as she gave us her last breath. Maria fought a strong battle of multiple cancers from 2007 till the end of her life beating several battles in between. She was a loving, sharing, considerate, heart-warming woman from her youth to her adulthood as a friend, mother, grandmother and seamstress until she retired in Louisville, KY moving to Mammoth Cave, KY for 17 years before coming back home to Knoxville in 2007. Preceded in death by her mother, Rosa C. Gibbs; father, William D. Gibbs; brother, Theodore D. Gibbs; son, S. David Thompson. Widowed by Horace Lynn Farmer. Blessed with many children of her own: Phil D. Thompson, Tommy J. Thompson, Michael L. Thompson, Timothy E. Thompson, Suki R.M. Arp ‘Seay’, Teresa E. Thompson, W.Joseph Ballard, Traci M. Mower. As well as stepchildren: Mary J. Wells, Christine Webb, Horace Lynn Farmer, Jr., Randel Farmer and Peggie Neil. Nephew, Mark Gibbs of England and family, 19 plus grandchildren, 17 plus great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Family would love to give a very unconditional “Thank You” to long lifetime friends through Maria’s adventurous life: Kay Hurt, Stefanie Gose, Pam Guess and Bernice Decker. We would also love to thank NHC St. Mary’s staff, CNAs and Nursing department as well as caring roommate and family. A celebration of Maria’s life will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5-8pm at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Knoxville, Tn 37918.
