Marcella Henderson Wilson Cotter was born on October 4th, 1916 in Knoxville, TN. She was the daughter of Sidney and Bessie Henderson of Concord, TN. Affectionately called Nanny by her family, she passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on January 9th, 2013 at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, SC surrounded by her loving family. She was 96 years young.She married the love of her life Sherfie S. Wilson at the young age. They made their home in Strawberry Plains, TN and there they raised their beautiful daughter Barbara Jean. She was a member of Strawberry Plains Baptist. She retired from Magnavox after many years of service. She was a member of the Strawberry Plains Eastern Stars for over 50 years. Many years after the passing of her husband Sherfie, she met and married L.G. Cotter. They had a love of travel and shared this passion with their many friends and enjoyed their “RV family”. She took delight in sharing this with her grandchildren Tina and Chris. Both still enjoy reminiscing about their monthly excursions with Nanny. She and L.G. lived between their home in Knoxville during the summer and in winters lived in Florida near their friends. She resided there until his passing and moved to Columbia, SC to be closer to family and to watch her great grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed going to the Senior citizen center at Seven Oaks, going with the group to pick apples in North Carolina and playing bingo. But, her real joy in life was watching her great grandchildren Lexie and Zach at their cheerleading and sporting events. She also enjoyed watching her great grandchildren Corey and Hunter at orchestra concerts and sharing with them how things were when she grew up like the price of her first car, price of gas, and the many Presidents of the United States she had voted for. She spent the last several years residing with her daughter Barbara and her son-n-law Joe who took incredible care of her. She is survived by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Joe, Granddaughter Tina and grandson Chris and his wife Jennifer; great grandchildren Corey, Hunter, Zachary and Lexie – all of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by step daughters Armitine Pate and Vivian Stroupe and a host of other relatives all of Knoxville, TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 12th from 5-7 PM at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home on Sunday at 12 PM to go in procession to Eastview Memorial Gardens for a graveside service to be held at 1 PMThe family would like to thank the wonderful staff and nurses of Lexington Medical Center’s Emergency Room, ICU and 7th floor North tower and also to Dr. Pusey, Dr. Marshall and Dr. Donovant for their care and compassion shown to Nanny.
