Skip, my sister Margaret, and I lost our mother in a house fire. My dad worked on the railroad and couldn’t care for us, so my sister was taken in by relatives and Skip and I ended up in the Hershey School for Boys (orphanage). Skip ran away enough times that he eventually lived with relatives, but we spent school breaks together.

Skip, my sister Margaret, and I lost our mother in a house fire. Skip and I ended up at the Hershey School for Boys orphanage while relatives took in Margaret. Skip and I spent some time with my dad (who worked on the railroad) and family when school was not in session. Skip ran away enough times that he eventually stayed with other family, but we always loved fishing and being with my dad, grandparents, and family.
