TRAN, KIM THI - 79 years young, born December 24, 1932 in Vinh Long, Vietnam. After a brief illness, she passed away on August 29, 2012 at her home. She was a member of Phap Bao Temple. She is preceded in death by her father, Tran Van Tien and mother, Nguyen Thi Qui; husband, Cao Van Tan; son, Cao Van Dung; granddaughter, Bach Mai Harness; brother, Nguyen Van Hai. She is survived by sister-in-law, Tran Thi Lan of Vinh Long, Vietnam; daughter, Nguyet (Kim) Starnes and husband, Randy of New Tazewell, TN; son, Hung Van Tran; daughter-in-law, Cuc Thi Kim; son, Dat Van Tran and wife, Hoang-Oanh all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Rosa Sohra and husband, Omid, Brian Starnes, Tam, Tanh and Taylor Cao, and Heather and Jonah Tran; great grandchildren, Jacob Cao, Kiana, Sylar, and Syras Sohra; and many close friends. Ms. Tran lived a long life of adventures. She is strong, independent, friendly and has a big heart. She is a devoted Buddhist and always helps people in need. She never met a person she didn't like. She has had her share of heartaches and happiness in Vietnam. She moved to Saigon to raise her family and helped raise many nieces and nephews. She took neighbors in when they had no place to stay. She fed them when they were hungry. She loved to donate money to help people in need. She is well loved and respected. After being separated from her three children for many years because of the war, she was reunited with them when she arrived with her other son, Dung and his family in the US in 1992. She loves to go to her Buddhist Temple, travel, gardening, and get togethers for a party, especially with her lady friends, Di Sau, Ba Sau, Ba hai, Snow and Chi Be, to play friendly cards. The Buddhism funeral service will be officiated by Thay (Reverand) Thich Khanh Minh. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Omid, Brian, Tam, Tanh, Taylor, Jonah and Quang La (friend). Monday, September 3, 2012. There will be a Buddhism service from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and then the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home. Wednesday, September 5, 2012, family and friends will meet at Weaver's at 8:00 a.m. for prayer and then travel to crematorium at 9:00 a.m. It is her wishes that in lieu of flowers, monetary donations be made to the Buddhist Temple at PHAP BAO Temple, 9909 Dutchtown Rd., Knoxville, TN 37923.
