Joining the U.S. Navy right out of high school, he served on the USS Roosevelt for four years during the Korean War. In 1960, Johnny moved to California where he and his wife June raised their children and sang and played music with their friends. He played the guitar, upright bass, drums and fiddle. Returning to East Tennessee in 1976, Johnny settled on a farm in Greeneville where he raised cattle. He owned his own carpet business for decades, and drove millions of miles for Consolidated Freightways. Johnny was known for his gregarious, fun-loving personality and his deep and abiding love for his family.
Johnny and June will celebrate their 60 years of marriage in July. His children Teresa, Mike, and Robin; and grandchildren, John, Brian, Lily, Micah, Elijah, and Chappell; and siblings Jessie, David and George will carry him in their hearts forever. Johnny was preceded in death by his son Wayne and grandson Thomas.
