Jerry Wayne Thomas Sr was the first born child to Nathan & Ernestine Thomas on May 22, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia. He joined the 4th District United States Marine Corp on August 4, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, spent more than a year overseas and received Honorable discharge August 3, 1965. He married the love of his life, Maude Louise Phillips in Baltimore, Maryland September 20, 1965. During their 54 years of marriage they lived in Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, East Tennessee, Virginia and Arkansas. Jerry loved fishing, watching sports, music, coffee and porch sitting to watch great grands play in the yard and the sunset.
Jerry lost a two year battle with cancer on Sunday December 29, 2019 at 2:30 am. He passed peacefully at home in Parkin, AR with his wife by his side. He was preceded in death by both parents and brothers, Edward and Timothy. He is survived by his wife Maude, son Jerry Thomas Jr and his wife Linda of Forest, Virginia, daughter Theresa Boozer and her husband Ben of Parkin, Arkansas, daughter Sharon Ferguson and her husband Ryan of Knoxville, Tennessee, two granddaughters Kimberly Parker and Haley Ferguson, five grandsons Mike Adams, Preston Johnson, Michael Johnson Jr, Ronald Wadkins and Hunter Ferguson, three sisters Patricia Railey, Alice Thomas and Tina Wood, one brother John Thomas and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation and Memorial Services will be held at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Boulevard, Knoxville, Tennessee on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. A military honors burial to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
