Jerry A. Giger, 80, departed this life at home on the morning of November 7, 2016. He leaves his beloved wife, Candace Gaut Giger; his much loved children Dr. Jerri Giger and her husband Michael Howard of Memphis and grandson Joe Howard: son Kevin Giger his wife Melissa Sanders Giger of Knoxville and grandsons Aaron and Noah Giger: and stepdaughter Alicia Wallace Gehring and her husband Clayton Gehring of Reston, Virginia. Jerry served with the U.S. Army from January 1959 until being honorably discharged in December 1960, with the rank of Sergeant. He retired from the Knoxville Utilities Board in 2003, where he was responsible for the supervision, design and maintenance of the pumps and electrical switch gear at the Mark B. Whittaker Water Plant, in addition to many other projects and designs. His career also spanned time at the Knoxville News Sentinel and several other companies. Jerry was an avid hiker, photographer, gardener, and loved making and playing the dulcimer. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel appreciated. Jerry will be forever loved and always in our hearts. Many thanks to Tonya Baker RN and the other nurses at Amedisys Hospice for their wonderful and loving care of jerry during his illness. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 10th at 10 a.m. at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
