James T. Smith, age 88, of Knoxville, found eternal peace and rest on April 26, 2016. J.T. was a veteran in the U.S. Navy. He was awarded three medals: Victory Medal, Asiastic Pacific Area Ribbon and the American Area Ribbon. He was the owner of Knox Vinyl and Aluminum Company for thirty years. He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Layne Smith; parents, Walter and Grace Smith; sister, Retha Davis and brother, Herbert Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joyce Smith; sons: Michael Smith and his wife Katie, James Smith and his wife Michele; Barry Smith; Gary Smith and his wife Susan; grandsons: Jamie Smith and his wife Johnna; Jeremy Smith, Patrick Smith, Colby Smith, Walker Smith and Wyatt Smith; great grandchildren: Blake and Laila Smith; nephew, Col. Philip Smith and wife Patty and their daughters, Rachel and Robyn.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will follow at 8:00 pm with Kent Williams, officiating.
Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in Berry Highland Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 am to go in procession to the gravesite.
