Myers, James D., M.D. age 83, of Knoxville, passed away August 17, 2010. Dr. Myers was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty K. Myers; parents, Forrest Claude and Cecil Dossett Myers; brother, Andrew (Andy) Myers; niece, Susan K. Myers. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Myers; children, Steve Myers and wife Martha, Lisa Slonaker and husband Steve, Leslie Lay and husband Jeff, Matt Myers and wife Jackie; grandchildren, Laura and Hilary Myers, Clay and Kimble Slonaker, Andrew, William, and Jackson Lay, Casey and Natalie Myers.
Dr. Myers was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, studied medicine at U.T. Medical Center – Memphis, served his Medical Internship with the Navy in Seattle, WA. He served the Knoxville community as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist for over 30 years, including serving as Chief of Staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center, and associate professor at U.T. Medical Center. Dr. Myers is a past member of Knoxville Academy of Medicine, American College of Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Knoxville Symphony Society. He played the trumpet with the Tennessee Valley Ensemble. He served Knox County Schools as a student mentor in Biology for Whittle Springs Middle School, and was an SEC Official Lane Judge and Official Timer for U.T. Swimming, and is in their Hall of Fame.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Knoxville Symphony, or Knoxville Opera.
Family will receive friends at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel, Friday, 5 – 8pm. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood Cemetery, Saturday 10:45 am, for 11am Interment Services, officiated by Rev.
