He was a Vietnam Veteran that served in the United States Army from 1968-1970. Jim retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company where he worked for many years. His hobbies included restoring old cars, fishing, going to races, and Cade's Cove lookouts, but most importantly spending time with his family.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee and Barbara Hurd; brothers Richard, Mark and Bruce Hurd and son-in-law Brian E. Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Linda Hurd; daughter Christy Thomas; grandchildren Kylie and Brady Thomas; brothers Bobby (Linda) Hurd and David (Verna) Hurd and a large loving family.
The family would like to give a special thanks to UT Palliative Care, UT Hospice, Dr. Davarifar, PA Chris and the staff of UT Oncology. They would also like to thank their friends that supported them during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations is James' name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The family welcomes friends for a Visitation on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Berry Highland South from 5pm-7pm with a Funeral Service to follow at 7pm. Family and friends will meet at Berry Highland South Cemetery in the Garden of Cross on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 10:45am for an 11am Graveside Service.
