Herman E. Helton, born on September 7, 1947, age 74, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home surrounded by loved ones on September 16, 2021. Dedicating 32 years serving as a Firefighter with the City of Knoxville Fire Department, he held many positions within the department, retiring as Fire Marshall in 2007. He loved being a firefighter and it was both a passion and calling. An avid sports fan, he dedicated over 40 years coaching boys’ and girls’ teams. He loved hunting and fishing throughout his lifetime. The one thing that brought him the most joy was his grandchildren. They were his world. Preceded in death, parents, Homer and Ruth Helton, sister, Geneva Ward, brother, Raymond Helton. Survived by loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Janet Helton, son, David (Kerry) Helton, daughter, Amanda (JP) McNutt, daughter, Ashley (Ben) McVay, grandchildren, Amber Helton, Colin, Leah, Luke McVay, Kendall McNutt, great-grandchild, Wesley Sherk, sister, Vickie Mathews, mother,-in-law, Betty Norton, sister-in-law, Judy (Bill) Keck, brothers-in-law, Dale (Kay) Norton, Neil Norton, Buddy Holder, and a host of nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the nursing staff on 6 East and Dr. Humphrey at UT Medical Center for their compassionate care and making this journey easier. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 on Monday, September 20th at Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave., Knoxville, TN 37921 with a service to follow officiated by Reverend Jim Malone and Chaplains Paul Trumpore and Carl Ford. Family and friends will meet Tuesday, September 21st at Weaver Funeral Home at 10:00 am for a procession to Louisville Cemetery, located on Louisville Road. for an 11:00 am interment.
