Herbert "Herb" Leon Helton, age 77, of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 30, 2022. He was an amazing husband, the best father ever and a devoted Papaw.
Herb was born and raised on Walden's Creek in Sevier County and was a staple of the community. He graduated from Sevier County High School and then onto the University of Tennessee, where he received his Bachelor's Degree and his Master's Degree. Herb taught Vocational Agriculture for 16 years at Parrottsville, Porter and Heritage High Schools, then later became the Vocational Director of Blount County Schools. In his 16 years, he impacted many lives in positive ways and making many lifelong friendships. For the next 16 years, went on to open Helton's Craft and Food Mart and Herb's Market. He was famous for the Herbie Burger and the Super Herbie Burger. During this time, he made even more friends that he kept for a lifetime. He went on to work in Real Estate for the rest of his career. He helped many people find the home of their dreams and made many more friends in the process.
Herb was a member of Paw Paw Hollow Baptist Church for several years. He never met anyone that he didn't share his faith with. Most of all, Herb was a Christian who lived it daily and always trusted in God to let His will be done. He was a prayer warrior who had a list of loved ones he would pray for every single day.
Herb is preceded in death by his parents Ernest "Goob" and Reba Helton; siblings Ernestine (Ed) Biddle, Wade (Cleo) Helton and Betty (Harold) Butler. He is survived by his loving, supportive and devoted wife of 55 years Shirley Helton; children Trina Helton and Rodney (Deidra) Helton; grandchildren Michelle Wenke, Elissa (Austin) Roberts, Trevor Wenke, Adelynn Helton, Cale Helton and Britton Helton; coming soon great-grandson baby "Leon"and brother Leroy (Barbara) Helton. Herb also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and a large loving group of friends.
The family welcomes friends for a Visitation Service on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 5pm-7pm at Berry Highland South with a Funeral Service to follow at 7pm. Friends and family will meet at Berry Highland South Cemetery in the Garden of Cross on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 10:45am for an 11am Interment Service.
