Grace H. Snyder, loving wife, mother, and a friend to many people, passed away on April 5, 2018 with her husband and son by her side. She was born in Akron, OH, raised in Lafollette, TN and resided in Knoxville most of her life. Upon passing, she was received by her Heavenly Father and reunited with family and friends who preceded her in death, including daughters, Jo Ann Snyder and Mary Baggett, grandson, Brandon Mize, parents, Sherman and Mary Housley and brothers, Charles and Doug Housley. She leaves behind many family members and friends who will greatly miss her and feel a great void in their lives. They include her husband of over 64 years, William Snyder, son, Jay Snyder, granddaughter, Wendy Long, grandson, Rodger Mize, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, she balanced family life and employment. Employed as an accountant, she simultaneously provided great care for her family at home and regularly prioritized their needs and wants over her own. While outdoors, she enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. While indoors, she enjoyed collecting antiques, cooking, sewing, and crocheting, often while she watched the Lady Vols basketball or listened to her favorite gospel ministers and singers. She used these enjoyments to fulfill the two greatest commandments stated in Matthew 22: 37-39 by loving her Lord and loving others. Many newborn babies received a crocheted item from her. She contributed cooked dishes to many grieving families during funerals. She visited many people in the nursing home and hospital. She served as a secretary various times for her Sunday school class and for the Olivet Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member. John 14 was among the many Bible passages she enjoyed. During this time, her family grieves her passing but rejoices in knowing that she has gone to a better place that was prepared for her and that she suffers no longer. Ironically, she had begun reading, “Revealing the Mysteries of Heaven”, and now she is seeing it firsthand. The family appreciates the staff of Ft. Sanders Transitional Care Unit who provided her with exceptional care and an abundance of love. The family also appreciates those who visited her in the hospital and who prayed for her health and the family’s strength. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Sunday at Weavers Chapel with the service to follow at 7. Rev. Fred Miller officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm Monday at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 2 pm interment. Condolences may be left at www.weaverfuneralservices.com.
