Glen Earl Crawford

Glen was a devoted employee for A J Metler Hauling and Rigging for over 55 years. “Chipmunk,” as he was known when saddled in a truck cab, lived much of his life tearing down great American highways delivering his payloads across the country.

When Glen got home from work, the work had just begun. His vegetable garden wasn’t going to tend itself and he was never one to take any comfort in sitting around, anyway. He sold juicy tomatoes and crisp cucumbers from his stand on Fretz Road, which was usually left unattended. Why would he manage the stand when there’s a group of best friends and army buddies to share a Hardees breakfast with?

Throughout his life he was a sports fan whether that meant, sweating over the Vols, or watching his brothers-of-the-road in a NASCAR race (he was always fond of The Intimidator and Junior). Even after a late-in-life fight with lung cancer, you could still find him gardening outside or over a puzzle in the winter months.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents: Ruby and Charlie Seaton; and companion: Ruth Raby. Glen and Ruth enjoyed many travels over their years together, both cross country and abroad.

He is survived by his nephews: Lynn Palmer and Michael Palmer; niece: Robin (David) Smith; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Special thanks to Kelly Crandall for her help and care over the last few months.

Visitation will take place at Weaver Funeral Home in Knoxville on 9/15/22 from 5-7pm with a service to follow.
