Keener, Gertrude P. (Merritt), age 88, of Knoxville, ended her search for Jack on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 and they’re together again forever. She was a former member of Lonsdale Baptist Church and was attending Beaumont Ave. Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Harley C. (Jack) Keener; parents, Emerson and Josephine Merritt; brothers, Willard, Ray, Burton Merritt , Roy and wife Johnnie Merritt; sisters, Opal Johnson and Jewel Snyder; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Keener Buckley; beloved pet Gingi.
She will be greatly missed by son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Judy Keener; grandchildren, Melissa Keener, Tony Keener and fiancée Jane Petty; great grandchild, William Mitchell; sisters and spouses, Mattie and Jack Cox, Elaine and Raymond Harkleroad and Carlie and John Mechler; sisters-in-law, Mary Charles Merritt and Beatrice Day; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mitchell and Margie Keener; many nieces and nephews; special lifelong friend, Ethel Sands of Cambridge City, IN; caregivers, Brenda Cooper, Glenda Cooper and Mary Caudill.
Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11 am graveside service Friday with Rev. Ronald Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc., 2270 Sutherland Ave, Suite 202, Knoxville, TN 37919.
