Lenora Geraldine Cox Miles passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 27, 1930 to Clarence Basil and Gladys Collins Cox and raised in a small community outside of Greeneville, TN. Being the eldest sister, she made sure her younger brothers, Jimmy and Max, towed the line. Early on, she was nothing short of a disciplinarian. During her years at Mosheim High school she was well-liked by her classmates and chosen captain of the basketball team and named FHA Queen.
At the impressive age of 18, Geraldine worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. She would modestly tell stories of taking shorthand during meetings and handling important files. Known as "Geri," she was proud to be a charter employee of Park West Hospital. Becoming the supervisor of the communications department, she gave 35 years of faithful service as a beloved and treasured employee. Hard, dedicated work was one of her values.
During her 92 years on earth she showered her family with sincere devotion, delicious food (especially her yeast rolls and chocolate birthday cakes), and gifts. A gift from her was given with tremendous thought (and much shopping time!) as to please the recipient to perfection. It was her labor of love. Mrs. Miles was the epitome of great style as seen in her perfectly dressed attire, her much-studied furniture purchases, dipping her pen in an ink bottle to hand address Christmas cards, and hand sewing her childrens' Easter outfits. Nothing was ever on a whim! She portrayed class in every way.
Mrs. Miles was a long time faithful member of Woodlawn Christian Church and made sure to instill her Christian faith upon her children and grandchildren. She lived her life as a person of good faith and character by believing and following the Bible. She loved her neighbor as thyself.
Affectionately called "GG", she created a legacy of four children, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Loving them beyond measure, nothing gave her more joy than spending countless hours with her family. She was the proud grandmother of Allison Raines Williams (husband, Rob), Alec Douglas Raines, Miles Jacob Shope, John Wesley Shope (wife, Fawn), Natalie Shope Roe, Hannah Elaine Reed, Emily Elizabeth Reed, Matthew Michael Reed (wife, Grace) and Leala Elizabeth Miles (mother, Kelly). Great grand-mother to Ethan, Liam, Makyla, Thornton, Ava Grace, Morgan, Evy, and Thomas. She taught by example and a quick reprimand. They will forever cherish their "GG". She is predeceased by her parents; brother, James Cox; first born daughter, Pamela Miles Sherrod; grandson, John Wesley Shope; and son-in-law, Michael Reed. She is survived by her loving children and their families, Patricia Miles Shope (husband, Steve), Elaine Miles Reed, Bradford Scott Miles, and her brother, Max Cox (wife, Janet). She deeply cherished her Cox and Miles family in Greeneville, Tennessee.
The family extends a deep appreciation for the compassion and kindness showered upon her while she was a resident at Truewood, formerly Raintree Assisted Living, and the expert care given by U.T. Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the University of Tennessee Medical Center's NICU Crisis Fund, https://www.utmedicalcenter.org/give-now/
To her last days here on earth, babies always made her smile.
Funeral services will be at Berry Funeral Home Chapel, Chapman Highway, on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 2:00 PM with private interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until time of service.
