Jerry was born in Richmond, Virginia. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He received a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from Virginia Tech. His successful career in the can manufacturing industry with American Can Company and U.S. Can Company spanned many decades. Jerry also served domestically in the Air Force during and just after the Korean war period.
Jerry had upwards of thirty home addresses over the years as he moved in support of his father’s and then his career. He traveled extensively both for work and personally, which he greatly enjoyed. He had many hobbies and interests, ranging from building and flying model airplanes to bowling to skiing to fishing. His greatest passion was bridge, where he rose to the level of Life Master. He continued to compete at national bridge tournaments until his eyesight sadly failed in recent years. He had an extensive network of friends from his world of work as well as the world of bridge.
Jerry is survived by his brother Bart Vaughan, his two sons Douglas Vaughan and David Vaughan as well as his three stepchildren Jennifer Reynolds, Lisa Anderson, and Mark Anderson. Jerry is also survived by his three grandchildren Gerald “Jerry” Vaughan, William “Mac” Vaughan, and Emma Vaughan. He was predeceased by his parents Mary Jackson Vaughan and Garnett Vaughan, by his first wife Martha Raper Vaughan, and by his second wife Connie Anderson Vaughan.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 9, 2023 in the Westwood Chapel of Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. Jerry will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
