Dye, George, 78, passed away February 14, 2011 at Mercy Hospice. He was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee, on December 25, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sallie Dye; brothers, Doyle Dye and Glendon Dye; sisters, Delores Clanton and Louise Holton. He was a member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his BS Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and his Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee. He taught four years at Lascasses High School in Middle Tennessee before coming to Knoxville in 1963 where he taught at Carter High School for 30 years. He was a member of the Knoxville YMCA for more than 30 years where he exercised daily. George and Wanda loved to travel and had visited all 50 states, most of the Canadian Provinces, Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries.
Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Wanda; sisters, Edna King and Geraldine Lawwell and husband Jim; brother, Jerry Dye and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Shirley Dye, and brother-in-law, Milton Holton, all of Shelbyville; nephews, Gary Dye of Hartselle, AL, Tony Dye, David Dye, Stephen Lawwell, all of Shelbyville, and George Hill of Knoxville; nieces, Lisa Prince of Shelbyville, Tammy Lawwell of Atlanta, GA and Dr. Sherri Brown of Louisville, KY; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Aileen and Jim Hill, Knoxville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Dr. Carolyn Brown of Greeneville.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Wednesday. Funeral 8 pm Wednesday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Rev. Max Reddick, Rev. Ron Thomas, and Rev. Sean White officiating.
