George Franklin Backus was born in Blacksburg, Virginia on February 15, 1963. He, like a lot of his family, graduated from Alcoa High School as a member of the Class of 1981. Upon graduation, George joined the United States Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in South Korea in the 1980's.
George was known for cheering on his beloved Tennessee Volunteers on Saturdays and the New Orleans Saints on Sundays. But, more than that, he will be remembered as a loving, caring, kind, gentle soul that never met a stranger and was always happy to lend a hand.
George is survived by his parents, William and Jo Ellen Backus; his wife, Patricia Backus; his son, William Backus (Regan); and his siblings, Landon Backus (Teresa), Jeff Backus (Dana), Laura Sineff and Janet Love.
To know George was to love him, and his memory will serve as a constant source of comfort for family and loved ones.
A receiving of friends and family for George will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Partnership Christian Church, 323 Partnership Pkwy, Maryville, TN 37801, followed by a celebration of life at 3:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in George’s name to the American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans.
