Gene was a veteran of the Vietnam War for the US Army. He was a disabled military veteran but stayed strong and independent his entire life. Gene settled down in Illinois for many years but also lived in CA, MO, FL and TN.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life for more than 40 years, Marie DeJaynes and parents, Virgil and Margie DeJaynes.
Gene is survived by son, Michael DeJaynes; daughter, Gina (Mark) Carter; grandchildren. Michael DeJaynes Jr., Christina DeJaynes, Kayla Russell and great-grandchild, Cutler DeJaynes.
Family and friends are invited to stop by at their convenience Sunday, October 9, 2022 between the hours of 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at McCarty Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Hwy, Knoxville. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, October 10, 2022, 2:00 pm at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Gov. John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville.
