Harbin, Frances Helen age 83 of Knoxville passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011. She was a long time member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church serving as class teacher and treasurer and WMU director. She was a 1946 Graduate of Bledsoe High School where she was the class Valedictorian, a member of the first graduating class of East Tennessee Baptist School of Nursing in 1951. She had a long nursing career specializing in pediatrics, after retiring from nursing she became active in child care ministries. Frances was also an avid gardener that would spend hours in her flower beds.
Preceded in death by her husband George Robert Harbin, Sr., parents John and Neita Aslinger, son George Robert Harbin, Jr., brothers Bill and Bob Aslinger.
Survivors include daughter Sherry Harbin, sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Nancy Harbin and David and Jennifer Harbin, brother and sister-in-law Rodney and Charma Aslinger, sister Betty Miller, grandchildren Jennifer (David) Whitaker, Jon (Katie) Harbin and Rebekah, Haley and Erin Harbin, great grandchildren Ethan and Addie Mae Whitaker.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the many special caregivers and the wonderful staff at NHC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lottie Moon Mission Fund, c/o Wallace Memorial.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jon Harbin, David Whitaker, George Aslinger, Barry Aslinger, Rick Harbin and V.W. Linginfelter
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 12-2pm at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2pm with Rev. Kent Williams and Dr. Jim McCluskey. Friends and family will meet at 3pm in Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a 3:15pm interment service. Arrangements by Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel.
