JACKSON, ELTON RONALD (RON) - age 82 of Knoxville passed away Tuesday peacefully at home from pancreatic cancer. He was a retired civil engineer at TVA and a member of Cumberland Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. Although his father, Floyd Milburn Jackson, quit school after the fourth grade to help support his family, Ron was an engineering graduate of Auburn University. He volunteered for Baptist Hospice delivering fruit baskets and for Mobile Meals delivering mobile meals with his wife for several years. Ron typified "The greatest generation" by facing any task before him with great resolve, determination, and without complaint. He is survived by Betty (Clark) Jackson, his wife of 58 years; daughter Dr. Kay Jackson (Shelton) and husband Dr. Tom Shelton of Memphis, TN and grandchildren, Matthew, Emily and Andrew Shelton; daughter Anne Oxley and husband Tim Oxley and grandchildren Brittany, Grace (fiancée, Ben Fennell), and Natalie Oxley. He is preceded in death by sisters, Daisy Lynn Maples, Dixie Edge, Doris Cotton, Janice Jackson, and brothers, Maxwell, Burnis , JB, and Charles Jackson. Those of us who knew him are sad, thankful, and hopeful: sad that he is gone; thankful to have known him; and hopeful that we will be reunited with him one day in heaven. Receiving friends will be Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 at Weaver Funeral Home and service to follow. Grave side services at the John Sevier Veterans Cemetery on Monday at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, send donations to either Cumberland Baptist Church or American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at www.weaverfuneralservices.com Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home.
