Edward Shain Keen (May 23, 1934 -June 5, 2016) passed away on June 5 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Geraldine of Knoxville and children Ann Taylor (Knoxville), Robert and wife Karen (Knoxville), Bill and wife Rowena (Atlanta). He is also survived by his grandsons Michael, Matthew, Nicholas Taylor (Knoxville) and granddaughters Lauren, Jessica and Elizabeth Keen (Atlanta) .Ed was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He had a vast and influential career that had both a global and local impact. He was on the NASA Apollo 11 Mission team serving as a lead designer for the moon buggy, served as the lead executive for emergency response design changes on the White House under President Ronald Reagan and was Vice President of Design and Construction for the Los Angeles Olympics Games in 1984. Closer to Knoxville, Ed was the Vice President of Construction for the 1982 World’s Fair where he received the American Society Civil Engineers Construction Man of the Year. After the Fair, he managed environmental, defense and space operations for Bechtel National, Inc. in Oak Ridge before moving to the west coast where he became a Partner with the Bechtel Corporation and President of Bechtel Hanford, Inc. After his retirement, Ed returned to his beloved East Tennessee. Ed enjoyed spending time on the golf course, traveling the world, watching the Tennessee Vols and spending time with his family. The family will be receiving friends at Berry Highland Memorial on Thursday June 9 from 5 -7 pm. A mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church on Friday June 10 at 10:30am. Family and friends will proceed to Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery following mass for interment. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the United Way.
