DIXON, EDNA MARIE “NANA” LOWE – age 89 of Knoxville, died Monday, July 1, at the family home after a long fight with Alzheimer’s. She was born May 27, 1924 in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by parents, Rev. William F. Lowe, Sr., and Evelyn Snyder Lowe, brother William F. Lowe, Jr., sisters Margaret Valentine and Jeanne Ledford. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Samuel Oscar Dixon, sons Jack Dixon and wife, Frances, and Rick Dixon and wife, Cathy, former daughter-in-law Sharon Tipton, grandsons Matthew Dixon and Ricky Dixon and wife, Heather, great-granddaughter Natalie Marie Dixon due July 2013, former granddaughter-in-law Tina Cooper Dixon, and great grandson Jacob Cooper Dixon, all of Knoxville, several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. During their 67 years of marriage, Oscar and Marie loved traveling. They visited all 50 states and followed the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team on the road with Knoxville Tours whenever possible. They were also frequent visitors to Dollywood and walked at West Town Mall nearly every weekday morning, where they made numerous friends. Marie was a 69 year member of Third Creek Baptist Church where she was a choir member and soloist, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School director. She had perfect Sunday school attendance for more than 25 years. The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Amedisys for the wonderful care they provided during Marie’s last days, and special appreciation to her longtime physician, Dr. James Carlson, and his staff for their excellent care through the years and also to her great niece Linda Valentine for her enduring love and care through this illness. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 3, at Weaver Funeral Home from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm with the service immediately following, Dr. Rodney Duncan officiating.
