Edith Mae Shipley

Edith Mae Shipley, age 88, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. Edith was born July 1, 1933 in Murphy, North Carolina to Frank and Josie Garland. She was one of eight children and had a special bond with all her siblings. Edith was a beloved mother, Mammaw to her grandchildren and Emaw to her great granddaughter. Edith loved flowers, gardening and was a fantastic cook.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles E. Shipley, Sr.; parents, Frank and Josie Garland; siblings, C.S. Garland, Ruth Russell, Barbara Russell.

Edith is survived by children, Kathie Birdwell (Jack Nelson) and Jason (Brandi) Shipley; grandchildren, Kristen and Nathan Shipley; great granddaughter, Everleigh-Ann and soon to be great grandson, Ryland; siblings, Marvin Garland, Lucille Brown, Dorothy Graham, Dewey Garland; many nieces and nephews; her beloved cat, Luna.

Family will receive friends Friday, January 21st from 5-7pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with funeral service following at 7pm. Rev. Bob Zavattieri officiating. Graveside service will take place Saturday, January 22nd meeting at Greenwood Cemetery on Tazewell Pike at 2:45pm for a 3pm interment. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the family to cover funeral expenses.
