WHITAKER, RAY EDWARD, on Sunday, June 23, 2013 Ed, a servant of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit was called home. Spending the last 59 years at Washington Pike United Methodist Church, he held many positions on several committees. His main love was teaching the Christian Fidelis Sunday School class for over 30 years. Family was always in his heart, to be a dad, always honorable, dependable and to always love each one as a person. Retired from American Greeting Corporation after 26 years of service.
Survived by wife, Patsy (Beeler) of 59 years; sons, Steve (Susan), John (Lisa); daughter, Susan (Neal Green); grandchildren Michael (Andrea), Ila and Sam; Michael’s mom, Diana Whitaker. Special thanks to Patsy for a lifetime of loving, caring and total faithfulness. Many thanks to Thompson Cancer Center and the 8th floor nursing staff at Fort Sanders Medical Center.
Friends will be received from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Washington Pike United Methodist Church with service to follow at 7 P.M. with Dr. Pat Polis and Dr. Jim Bailes officiating. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Pike United Methodist Church Food Pantry.
