Rev. Doyle Chatman Landers was born on June 21, 1939 in Longview, Bedford County, TN to Guy and Macon Landers, and born again August 5, 1970 in Shelbyville, Bedford County, TN. He passed away at UT Medical Center, Knoxville, Knox County, TN on January 22, 2024. He was a long time member and former associate pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN. Previously he had been an associate pastor at Harris Chapel Baptist Church, Hudson, NC, and a former member of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church, Shelbyville, TN. He was also a retired member of the TN National Guard.
Bro. Doyle had a love for children, evangelism, and the bus ministry. He never met a stranger, had an infectious smile/laugh, had a gift for storytelling, and loved all things Tennessee Volunteers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lorraine Thompson Landers; father, Guy Landers; mother, Macon Landers; grandson, Levi Cleveland Vannoy III; granddaughter, Malindy Rachel Smith; and son-in-law, Edward Brian Smith, and is survived by his son, Edward (Stacey) Landers, Andersonville, TN; daughter, Yolanda Vannoy, Knoxville, TN; daughter, Donna Landers Smith, Knoxville, TN; grandson, Nathan (Samantha) Landers, Powell, TN; brother-in-law, Rudy Pilkington (Dawn), Shelbyville, TN; and great granddaughter, Macon Marie Vannoy, Knoxville, TN.
The family would like to extend thanks to their neighbors and friends for all their prayers, calls, and visits. They will receive friends on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Old Maryville Pike, Knoxville, TN, and the Celebration of Life will begin at 7pm, with Rev. Kirby Ownby officiating. The Celebration of Life Service will be livestreamed on the Mount Olive Baptist Church Facebook page. Family and friends will meet at 1:45pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E Gov. John Sevier Hwy Knoxville, TN 37920 for a 2pm interment service. Full Military honors will be provided by the Army National Guard and East TN Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Olive Baptist Church.
