Joiner, Douglas Fairbanks, 87, passed to our Heavenly Father’s arms on January 6, 2011. He was a long-time resident of the Concord Community, now Farragut. He was born January 25, 1923. The son of Samuel Otis Joiner and Mollie Luella Moore Joiner in Knoxville, TN. He married Mary Wanda Everett February 12, 1944 and enlisted in the United States Army January 7, 1943 to fight in WWII. He was a D-Day+3 Veteran of the Omaha Beach Landing and was wounded in action during the Battle of the Bulge. He graduated from Knoxville Business College June 29, 1951. He retired from TRW (formerly Patton Button Company). He was a deacon at Hollywood Hills Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wanda Joiner and son, Kevin Dan Joiner; also preceded in death by brother, George W. Joiner. Surviving him are three children: Darlene Lara and husband, Jim Lara, David Joiner and wife, Susan Rochat Joiner and Mavis Joiner, all of Knoxville. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, special granddaughter, Megan Matthews and husband, Charles Matthews; grandsons, Captain Samuel Joiner USMC and fiancé Tyler Gordon, Captain Caleb Joiner USMC and wife, Shera Joiner, Joseph, Silas and J.D. Joiner and Quinn Joiner-Morrison; granddaughters, Ruth and Lydia Joiner; five great-grandchildren, special great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Matthews; great-grandsons, Anthony Matthews, Miles Joiner; great-granddaughters, Marygrace Matthews, Savannah Joiner; sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Joiner Mays and husband, Earl Mays; brother, Donald Joiner and wife, Jo Householder Joiner; special cousin, Athlyne Stallings Hancock all of Knoxville. The family will receive friends Sunday January 9, 2011 from 2:00-3:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy. A celebration of Douglas’ life will follow at 3:00 pm, Pastor Mark Caldwell of New Providence Baptist Church, Loudon, TN will officiate. Becasue of a major snow storm Sunday night, the interment service has been rescheduled and is as follows: Family and friends will meet at Rocky Hill Cemetery on Northshore Drive on Saturday, January 15th at 1:00 pm for interment with full military honors. Please park at Rocky Hill Baptist Church across the street to attend the interment. Pallbearers are, Jim Lara, Charles Matthews, Wayne Coker, Mark Joiner, Randy Hancock and Eric Morrison.
