Dugan, Donald J., age 86, of Knoxville, TN, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at The Bridge of Rockwood due to complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Memphis, TN December 1927. He was the youngest of 6 children. He served in the Air Force for 4 years. After discharge he met and married Dora – The Love of His Life. Soon followed 6 of their own children. Cathy (Ed) Burress of Andersonville, TN, Donnie (Julie) Dugan of Tuscon, AZ, Tricia (Kim) Woliver (both deceased), Paul (Janet) Dugan of Buford, GA, Claire (David) Spain of Lyles, TN, Michael Dugan of Knoxville. They had their 60th wedding anniversary January 28 which they celebrated at The Bridge of Rockwood with family and several of their dearest friends. The 2nd love of Donald’s life was flying. He spent many hours flying through the skies in his Cessna. Family trips were also taken in this plane. Whenever he heard a plane flying overhead he looked up and knew exactly what kind of plane it was. Donald was a devout Catholic and worshipped at Holy Ghost Catholic Church for over 50 years. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Dora; 5 of 6 children; several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He has 1 remaining sister, Charlotte Wallace of Punta Gorda, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Edward Dugan; 2 brothers, Edward Jr. and Paul; 2 sisters, Catherine and Mary Virginia; his daughter, Tricia; son-in-law, Kim and grandson, Alex. Receiving of friends will be Friday, May 30 from 6 – 8 pm at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel, 2300 Adair Dr., Knoxville, TN 37918 followed by a Rosary led by Monsignor Mankel. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic, Saturday, May 31 at 11 am led by (his friend and fellow flying enthusiast) Father John Dowling. Burial immediately following at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pk., Knoxville, TN 37918 followed by a luncheon at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ladies of Charity, 120 West Baxter Ave, Knoxville, TN 37917 or Alzheimer’s of Tennessee, 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
