Haupt, Claire age 90, of Seymour, passed away on Thursday, June 30th, 2016. Formerly of New York and Stratford, CT, she and her late husband, Richard, relocated to Knoxville in 1979 upon his corporate move from Stamford, CT to TN. Claire retired from the New Yorker Magazine where she worked for 15 years as a manuscript typist and proofreader. She had the privilege of meeting and working with renowned literary figures during the turbulent years of the sixties when many changes were taking place in the nation. Claire enjoyed doing crossword puzzles as well as reading and listening to her collection of classical music. Gardening was her passion. She was an avid animal lover and a member of several animal organizations. Claire was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church since its inception in 1985. Surviving her are her niece, Jeanie Murphy of Boston, MA; grand-niece, Lauren Johnston and children, Paige and Daniel of Needham, MA; longtime friends Elena and Charles Baker of Great Falls, VA, Iris McManus of Ontario, Canada, and Dorothy Barry of Bellerose, NY. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister. A memorial gathering will be held Monday July 11th at 7pm at Berry Highland South on Simpson Road.
