Mason, Charles Franklin (Peanut) (Troop) 89 of Knoxville, TN passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from cardiac arrest at Tennova Hospital Turkey Creek. He was a 1948 graduate of Knoxville Central High. Charlie's parents were James R. Mason and James Alice Martin Mason. During the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Air force on August 8, 1950 and served until August 7, 1954 with the 360th A&E Squadron and the 360th Bombardment Wing stationed at MacDill Air force Base, Tampa, Florida. Charlie trained in Colorado and was stationed in England. Following his Air Force deployment, he began his 35 year career at the K-25 and Y-12 plants in Oak Ridge. Charlie was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers. He was of the Baptist faith but he attended the Methodist Church with his son's family with the grandchildren. Charlie enjoyed the Rejoice Sunday services when he was in declining health. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack of Rhode Island and John of North Carolina; sister, Bobbie of Knoxville. Charlie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma Dixon Mason of Farragut; son, Douglas(Malessa) of Lenoir City; granddaughter, Claire(Don) Williams of Nashville; grandson, Zachary of Lenoir City; sister, Jamie McFalls of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as friends. Family will receive friends Friday, October 5th from 5-7pm at Berry Highland South on Simpson Road with funeral service following at 7pm. Rev. David Mason to officiate. Family and friends will gather at the mausoleum at Berry Highland South on Saturday, October 6th at 12:00pm for a graveside service.
