Charles was born August 4, 1939, in Knoxville TN, the son of Thomas Patrick and Fannie Mae (VanDeventer) Flenniken. Charles attended high School at Rule High School in Knoxville and later would marry the love of his life Inez in December of 1955. At 16 years of age, he joined the Navy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1975 and then went to work for the state of Tennessee Department of Revenue for 17 years. During his time in the Navy, he received his GED and later went on to get degrees in both business management and supervision from Southwestern College. Charles was a member of the local I.A.T.S.E. Stagehands Union where he also served as secretary for many years.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased in death by his wife Inez, his sisters Barbara, Johnny, and Jody, and his daughter Terry Charlene Flenniken Debusk.
Charles is survived by his brother Thomas Patrick Flenniken Jr., his daughter Joy Flenniken Bolt and son Kevin G. Flenniken. Charles is also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A receiving of friends and family will be held in the parlors of Berry Funeral Home. Located at 3704 Chapman highway, Knoxville, TN on November 7, 2023 between the hours of 6 P.M and 8 P.M.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, located at 2200 East John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920 on November 8, 2023 promptly at 12:30 pm.
