C. Mike Wood of South Knoxville passed away November 3, 2010 at University of Tennessee Medical Center after a short illness. Mr. Wood, a native Knoxvillian, was born March 17, 1931. He was a graduate of Young High School and served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 – 1955, with one year in Korea. He was a life-long member of St. James Episcopal Church. Mr. Wood and his brothers, Pat and Jerry, started the Wood Agency in 1956. He was the owner, and stayed active in daily operations of Wood Realtors, Inc. and Wood Brothers Construction Co. until the time of his death. Over the years he developed numerous residential communities and commercial properties, including Atria Weston Place and the recently completed renovation and reconstruction of Minvilla Manor. His professional involvements included President of both the Knoxville and the Tennessee Association of Realtors and a Director of the National Association of Realtors. He was also a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers. He served on the Boards of Directors of The Better Business Bureau, the Knoxville Rescue Squad and the South Knox Waterfront Advisory Board. Mr. Wood was a founding member of the South Knoxville Optimist Club. Mr. Wood was married to Marilyn Gail Johnson Wood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Clark Wood and his brother, Jerry H. Wood. He is survived by wife, Gail and his brother, H. Pat Wood. In addition, he is survived by daughter, Susan Wood Reider and her husband Glenn and their son, Nathan; son, Michael Steven Wood and his wife, Jennifer and their children; Jenna and husband John Barbee, Leslie and Abraham; and daughter, Ann Wood Shelor and husband Rob and their children, Ben and Betsy. He also has a great-granddaughter, Eleanor Grace Barbee, and many beloved nephews, nieces and friends. The family will receive friends 5 PM - 8 PM, Friday, November 5th, in the Parish Hall at St. James Episcopal Church. A service, celebrating the life of C. Mike Wood will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Mark Wiggers officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
